Developer Greatland Realty Partners is kicking off construction of Revolution Labs, a 180,000-square-foot lab building in Lexington, one of its three current life science projects in the western suburbs.

An 1980-era office complex at 1040-1050 Waltham St. is being demolished to make way for the new complex being built by Callahan Construction Managers.

JLL Boston is leasing agent for the property. Greatland already has received several proposals, Managing Partner Phil Dorman told Banker & Tradesman last month.

Designed by SGA, the project will include lab infrastructure with extended clear heights, covered parking with a solar canopy and electric vehicle charging stations and shuttle service to the MBTA’s Alewife station.

Amenities include a cafe, fitness center, bicycle sharing and storage, lockers and showers and an outdoor deck with fire pit and athletic court.

Boston-based Greatland also is pursuing rezoning of the former Liberty Mutual campus in Weston for a life science project and a biomanufacturing campus at The Campus at Marlborough.
