Rockland Trust recently announced a deal to finance a multi-million dollar expansion to an elderly home in Southeastern Massachusetts.

The Hannah B. Griffith Shaw Home for the Aged will add 59,000 square feet and construct 47 additional units, nearly doubling its current size. The Shaw Home, at 299 Wareham St. in Middleboro, is expanding so it can meet increasing demands for long-term units and avoid having to transfer residents elsewhere for care.Left to right: Gary Johnson, Bruce Atwood, Lincoln Andrews, Deborah Blais, Robert Desrosiers, Donald Atkins and Paul Callann

"At Rockland Trust, we are committed to improving our communities, especially through projects that support some of our more vulnerable populations, including senior citizens," John Davison, project lender at Rockland Trust, said in a statement. "This expansion of The Shaw Home will greatly improve the facility and give the nonprofit more space to offer exceptional services to the elderly."

"With our expanded facility, we will be able to give more of our residents the opportunity to ‘age in place,’ something that is missing with our current facility and puts unnecessary strain on our residents and their families," Kristine Donnelly, administrator of The Shaw Home, said in the statement. "We are excited to begin construction and we are thankful to Rockland Trust for making this renovation possible."
