Rockland Trust Co. is adding interactive teller machines (ITM) as part of renovations to its Massachusetts locations in the next 12 to 16 months.

Patrick Myron, senior vice president and retail network strategist for the Hannover-based, $19.44 billion-asset bank, said that eight ITMs will be placed in “transformed branches” among its Massachusetts branch network. The bank has 25 ITMs in total as of today.

Rockland Trust is deploying its ITMs inside and outside its current bank branches, complementing its banking services.

The opening of new ITMs “is part of our overall network strategy which includes YourBanker, a digital tool that allows customers to connect to their own personal banker at any time using their mobile device or PC. YourBanker does have video capabilities and that is how it ties into ITMs and our overall strategy,” Myron said.

Myron said while the bank’s ITM units in general still have to see take up in usage, the push for ITMs is rooted in its primary Downtown Boston location at 93 Franklin St. which saw success in its adoption where 80 percent of its transactions come from the ITMs.

The bank currently has one drive-through ITM, and has been looking to explore the concept further after other banks with such ITMs have deemed them successful.

Rockland Trust has 123 branches in Massachusetts.
