Weymouth-based South Shore Bank opened a new branch in Brockton last week with a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The event was organized in partnership with the Metro South Chamber of Commerce and held at the new South Shore Bank Brockton Banking Center at 1280 Belmont St. It is bank’s first location in Brockton.

“We are very excited to be here in Brockton,” South Shore Bank CEO Jim Dunphy said in his remarks at the ceremony, according to a statement. “Brockton is a community on the move, and we see tremendous potential here. We love this location, and we will continue being very active in the community. South Shore Bank is committed to helping our communities grow and we look forward to engaging in more community support activities to improve the quality of life for all. We are very excited for the future in this great city.”

Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan presented Dunphy with an official City of Champions citation congratulating South Shore Bank and recognizing its commitment to the community in the city of Brockton.

“This is the first new bank opening in the city of Brockton that I can remember since I was a little kid growing up here,” he said, according to the statement. “Belmont Street is a perfect location to grow a customer base and serve our residents. The South Shore Bank mission statement speaks volumes for Brockton – togetherness, being part of a community.”
