In the month of July, the Massachusetts Division of Banks allowed, or received applications, regarding credit unions looking to merge, expand membership and to relocate, close or establish branches.

Decisions

Lynn-based St. Jean’s Credit Union’s plan to relocate its branch office from 184-186 Shirley Ave. in Revere to 151 VFW Parkway in Revere was approved on July 19.

The merger between Fall River Municipal Credit Union and Our Lady of Angels Federal Credit Union in Fall River was approved on July 21. Our Lady of Angels will merge into Fall River Municipal under the charter, by-laws and name of Fall River Municipal. The main office of Fall River Municipal will remain the main office of the continuing credit union and the sole banking office of Our Lady of Angels would be retained as a branch office of Fall River Municipal.

The state Division of Banks issued a non-objection on July 25 to Lowell-based Align Credit Union’s notice to establish a branch office at 211G Lowell St. in Wilmington.

The Division of Banks approved Dorchester-based Boston Firefighters Credit Union’s plan to amend its by-laws to expand the associations which qualify persons for membership on July 25. The amendment relative to membership eligibility proposes to now add employees and retirees of the Boston Emergency Medical Services and their family members; employees and retirees of the Boston School Police and their family members; and employees and retirees of police departments in cities or towns within a 25 mile radius of Boston and their family members.

Align Credit Union in Lowell has requested to close its branch office at 900 Chelmsford St. in Lowell.  The comment period ended July 17.

St. Anne’s Credit Union of Fall River has requested permission to amend its by-laws to expand the associations which qualify persons for membership. The amendment relative to membership eligibility proposes to now add membership for those who reside, work, attend school or have a place of business in the Rhode Island counties of Bristol, Newport, and Providence. It also proposes to add membership in the Rhode Island towns of Coventry, East Greenwich, Warwick, West Warwick and North Kingstown. Lastly, the amendment proposes to add membership for those attending school in its existing geographic field of membership and for family members of eligible persons. The comment period ended July 21, 2017.
