Suffolk Downs will open an 8,500-seat outdoor performance venue next spring in a partnership with concert promoter The Bowery Presents.

The Stage at Suffolk Downs expands the group’s roster of local music venues including the nine-month-old Roadrunner in Brighton and The Sinclair in Cambridge.

HYM Investment Group is redeveloping the former racetrack into a 16 million-square-foot mixed-use development starting off with a 280,000-square-foot life science building and the 475-unit Amaya apartment complex which broke ground earlier this year.

Known as The Stage at Suffolk Downs, the concert venue will be located at The Track at Suffolk Downs. The outdoor public recreation space opened in July 2021.

The Beatles famously played one of their two Boston shows at the racetrack’s first concert in 1966, and acts including the Jackson 5, Radiohead and Bjork later performed at the racetrack.

Next year’s opening line-up of acts has not been announced.
