Boston’s famed Taj Hotel, originally the Ritz-Carlton, is getting a renovation that will expand its rooftop restaurant and move the entrance to Newbury Street.

The project will also update the existing 195 hotel guest rooms and create 16 additional guest rooms, according to documents filed with the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

The hotel’s rooftop restaurant is currently seasonal and the project will permanently enclose the space, letting it operate year-round.
