Renters with an appreciation of neighborhood history have a chance to live in a remnant of Boston’s pre-urban renewal West End.
Apartments.com lists three units ranging from $1,850 to $1,950 at 42 Lomasney Way, best known as “The Last Tenement” and a survivor of the West End’s 20th-century redevelopment projects.
Built in the 1870s, the four-story walkup is the street’s only structure to survive the Boston Redevelopment Authority’s slum clearance program in the 1960s and the removal of the elevated MBTA Green Line tracks which once ran past the building.
The apartments are available as of Sept. 1, according to an online listing first reported by WBOS.
In contrast to the recently completed luxury developments in West End such as The Alcott and Hub50House, the Last Tenement list only basement laundry as a common-area amenity, along with electric heat and hot water included as part of the rent.
Located on an 896-square-foot parcel surrounded by streets, parking lots and dwarfed by new high-rises, the property most recently sold in 2014 when a Brockton realty trust paid $1.55 million.
