Oxford Sutton Development LLC has been assessed an $11,212 penalty for violating state water pollution control regulations in Oxford.

The Cambridge-based development company, which operated a wastewater treatment facility that serves a multiuse commercial development known as Oxford Crossing, holds a groundwater discharge permit issued by MassDEP in 2006, which authorizes the discharge of treated sanitary wastewater. The permit sets limits for the discharge of the effluent from the wastewater treatment facility.

According to monitoring data collected by the company, those limits were repeatedly exceeded in 2014 and 2015, including the limits for biochemical oxygen demand, total nitrogen, nitrate-nitrogen and total suspended solids.

The company and MassDEP have entered into a consent order that requires the company to transfer the permit to the current owner of the wastewater treatment facility and pay the $11,212 penalty for the permit violations.
