A former senior adviser at American Express Co. has resigned from the Webster Bank board of directors just three months after joining, citing a potential regulatory conflict.

James P. Bush notified Waterbury, Connecticut-based Webster Bank, which has branches throughout the Greater Boston area, of his resignation on Sept. 9, the bank said in an SEC 8-K report. The statement said Bush resigned “to remedy a potential inadvertent regulatory conflict with respect to his simultaneous service on the board of directors of GBT JerseyCo Limited.”

American Express Global Business Travel Jersey Co. Ltd. is part of a subsidiary of American Express Co. Bush had retired from American Express Co. in 2018 as senior advisor to the chairman and CEO.

“Mr. Bush is not resigning from the board due to any disagreement with the Company on any matter relating to the company’s operations, policies, or practices,” the bank said. “Mr. Bush expressed his continued support of the board, the management team and the company.”

Bush was serving on the of GBT JerseyCo Limited board of directors when he joined the Webster board in June.
