A Weymouth man was arrested yesterday for robbing his local Santander Bank and fleeing in an Uber.
Luis E. Mallett reportedly entered the 51 Pleasant St. bank branch at approximately 5 p.m. and passed a note demanding money and indicating he had a bomb.
As officers responded, the suspect, who was described as a short Hispanic male, fled the bank on foot. A nearby off-duty officer then spoke with a witness who described the suspect entering a red Nissan Altima heading to Brockton. The car had been driving for Uber at the time.
A Weymouth Police K9 tracked directly from the bank to where the witness had seen the suspect entering the Uber. Officers in the area located the red Nissan Altima, traveling on Main St. near a 99 Restaurant.
Officers approached the vehicle while it was stopped in traffic on Main Street at Pond Street. Mallett was seated in the rear passenger’s seat, carrying more than $700 in cash, which is consistent with the money had been stolen during the robbery.
Mallett had seven default and straight warrants for his arrest for charges including, but not limited to, larceny over $250 (5 counts), larceny under $250, larceny of a motor vehicle, uttering and receiving stolen property.
In addition to the warrants, Mallett was charged with unarmed robbery and false report relative to the location of an explosive device.
Mallett was held without bail and is scheduled for arraignment in Quincy District Court today.
