What may be Cambridge’s most unusual home – and certainly its most unusually-named home – is now on the market.

Designed and built by architects Beat Schenk and Chaewon Kim in 2006 as part of a four-house residential condominium, 19 Clifton St. #19 consists of three rooms stacked on top of one another and twisting as they rise over 1,200 square feet. The first floor holds a combined kitchen-dining area with marble floors and modern, stainless-steel cabinets and appliances, with stairs down to a living room in the basement. The second floor holds a bedroom partitioned from the stairs by a pair of sliding doors, a small study and a full bathroom, while the top floor holds the main bedroom with a built-in wardrobe, plus a full bathroom and laundry, screened from the bed by a frosted glass partition rising from the stairs.

The interiors are dominated by the central staircase, enclosed in sheets of high-quality marine plywood finished in a warm, golden hue – the same material that lines the walls in the second floor and gets highlighted by custom skylights that take advantage of ceiling corners exposed by the building’s twist. The building also comes with a deeded parking spot and central air conditioning and heating thanks to a mini-split system.

Named “XS what the hell is this,” the property and architects Schenk and Kim were featured in Dwell and other architectural publications, and the home has also made appearances on HGTV.

Ed Greable & Co., with Keller Williams, has the listing. The condo is on the market for $799,900.
