The Boston Redevelopment Authority board of directors has approved a $10-million addition and renovation project at the West Roxbury YMCA.

The project calls for the demolition of 16,000 square feet from the existing building where the pool and gymnasium are located, and construction of a 24,000-square-foot addition on the site of the former post office at 1972 Centre St.

Designed by architect LINEA 5 Inc. of Boston, the project will create approximately 250 construction jobs, the BRA estimated.
