Boston Redevelopment Authority directors approved a 225-room hotel in Haymarket Square, a new practice facility for the Boston Celtics in Brighton and the first phase of a 332-unit residential development in Roxbury’s Forthill neighborhood.
As part of the Haymarket Hotel project, developers will build 50 permanent stanchions and awnings for the open-air produce market that currently occupies the vacant lot at Blackstone Street and the Greenway on Fridays and Saturdays.
Wellesley-based Harbinger Development and Normandy Real Estate Partners in April submitted revised plans for a 5- and 6-story hotel and retail pavilion on the 1.2-acre parcel owned by Massachusetts Department of Transportation. North End residents and the Massachusetts Historical Commission had objected to an earlier proposal for a 10-story structure.
Eamon O’Marah, managing partner of Harbinger Development, said he has been in talks with major hotel operators on a potential deal but may opt to operate the hotel independently.
Harbinger also is also drawing up plans for a dual-branded 420-room Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel on the Economic Development and Industrial Corp. of Boston’s parcel A on Summer Street in South Boston.

Celtics’ practice facility at Boston Landing.
At Thursday’s monthly meeting of the BRA directors, NB Development received the go-ahead for a new practice facility for the Boston Celtics at the Boston Landing mixed-use development in Brighton. The team will relocate in spring 2018 from 840 Winter St. in Waltham. The Elkus Manfredi-designed building at 40 Guest St. will include two parquet basketball courts with a 40-foot glass wall visible from the Massachusetts Turnpike, training and locker rooms and media facilities.
The Boston Bruins are moving their own practice facility from Wilmington to a 175,000-square-foot facility at Boston Landing expected to be completed this fall.
BRA directors also approved the first phase of a 332-unit residential development including 45,000 square feet of commercial space at a former MBTA bus yard at 2565 Washington St. in Roxbury’s Forthill neighborhood. Plans by Windale Developers of Dorchester and Nuestra Community Development Corp. include a public events plaza, retail and interactive art space and a public market. The first phase will consist of 16 condos.
And a $37 million mixed-use development known as Indigo Block will bring 80 apartments, nine market-rate condos and a 2-story commercial building to Dorchester’s Upham’s Corner. The 125,400-square-foot project is sponsored by Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corp. The commercial space will include ground-floor commercial space for light industrial uses and second-floor offices.
