A 75,000-square-foot fieldhouse equipped with indoor playing fields, classrooms and a theater is proposed for a Dorchester site located steps from local schools.

The Martin Richard Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester are partnering on the Dorchester Fieldhouse project at 317 Mount Vernon St.

Estimated at $50 million, the facility would expand recreation and education venues at the site located next to the John W. McCormack and Paul A. Dever schools. In an announcement, organizers said selected the site was selected because of its central location which has a population of nearly 50,000 youths living within a 3-mile radius.

Dorchester-based RODE Architects designed the facility which will also include playing courts, a walking track, fitness and training rooms, teaching kitchen and outdoor garden. The property is owned by Boston public schools.

Organizers will partner with local organizations to provide cultural and wellness programming, Martin Richard Foundation Co-Founder Bill Richard said in a statement. The nonprofit foundation was formed in 2014 to honor the memory of 8-year-old Boston Marathon bombing victim Martin Richard.

A pair of youth and community advisory boards are working with the group to design and operate the facility to maximize its benefits.
