High-end retailer Louis Boston will move from its Back Bay location to Boston’s Fan Pier in Spring 2010.
According to an announcement made at Fan Pier by Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Louis Boston will operate out of temporary, modular space before moving into 20,000 square feet of permanent space in a yet-to-be-built residential building proposed as part of the finished Fan Pier project.
Joe Fallon, the project’s developer, said he anticipates Louis Boston operating out of the "temporary" space for as many as 10 years. He also said he hopes a lease will be finished for a new restaurant in a similar freestanding building next month, and once that is nailed down executives will follow through on two further letters of intent for the project’s existing office building.
"There is no question (the pace of development) has slowed," Fallon told Banker & Tradesman. "That’s why we’re doing this (temporary space) now because we dont want to leave it vacant, we want to get some activity on the site. Getting this up creates some activity. There’s no denying it has slowed, but I dont know how to stop. I am in perpetual motion."
Debi Greenberg, owner of Louis Boston, described the soon-to-be-erected retail space as "industrial luxury. It will be mostly windows because I dont want to obstruct the views."
Greenberg said she was drawn to Fan Pier "because there is no one here. To me, thats a plus. I get to be the first, I get to set the tone."
