Luis Alvarado has been named Northeast Region and Boston Market Lead for Cushman & Wakefield following the completion of its $2-billion merger with DTZ.

Alvarado, whose previous title was senior managing director, said his responsibilities will remain largely unchanged. The two commercial real estate heavyweights will be integrating their operations in the coming months.

“This is day one, so there’s a lot of things that will be ongoing,” Alvarado said Wednesday. “Prior to the merger, we weren’t allowed to have a lot of discussions between the two teams because we were separate companies. It’s in the process now and in the end, this will be a really good thing for both groups and, most importantly, our clients.”

Robert Griffin, whose title had been president of the New England area for Cushman & Wakefield, continues as head of the capital markets group.

The merger creates the world’s third-largest real estate company after CBRE and JLL, with combined revenues of $5 billion and 43,000 employees in at least 60 countries.

Cushman & Wakefield’s global management team will be led by Chairman and CEO Brett White and Global President Tod Lickerman. Joe Stettinius is chief executive, Americas.

The “new” Cushman & Wakefield is owned by three large institutional investors: private investment firm TPG, Asian alternative investment manager PAG and the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.

“This is a game-changing event in commercial real estate,” White said in a statement. “Both legacy firms had been aggressively growing their respective platforms and deepening their reach into the market with new acquisitions and talent. Now we have the opportunity to see these ambitions come together – capturing the momentum in the market and clearly claiming our position at the top of the industry.”

Jim Fagan has been named market lead for the Connecticut region including Stamford and New York’s Westchester County. Fagan was the existing senior managing director in Cushman & Wakefield’s Stamford office.
