Amazon’s new venture to reinvent employee health care systems will be headquartered in Boston.

Amazon is partnering with Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase on the new company, which will be led by Dr. Atul Gawande, a surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and chairman of Ariadne Labs, a health care research group based at 401 Park Drive in the Fenway. Gawande joins the new organization July 9.

“I have devoted my public health career to building scalable solutions for better healthcare delivery that are saving lives, reducing suffering, and eliminating wasteful spending both in the US and across the world,” Gawande said in a statement. “Now I have the backing of these remarkable organizations to pursue this mission with even greater impact for more than a million people, and in doing so incubate better models of care for all.”

Gawande is the author of four best-sellers and is a professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School.
