A 250-unit apartment complex and Market Basket supermarket will rise on a 68-acre property in Shrewsbury where a drive-in theater closed two decades ago.

The Dolben Co. and Belmont Capital are developing the Edgemere Crossing at Flint Pond mixed-use project at 180-228 Hartford Turnpike (Route 20). The project includes an additional 43,000 square feet of retail space.

The residential development will include 116 one-bedroom units and 134 two-bedroom units in nine buildings. Community amenities will include a swimming pool, a dog park and clubhouse. The first phase of construction began in November and residential units are scheduled to be completed between June 2022 and January 2023.

Rockland Trust led the $53.3 million financing package with participation by Peoples Bank of Holyoke and UniBank of Whitinsville.

The Edgemere Drive-in theater occupied the property for 46 years before closing in 2001.
