The federal government has received a dozen bids for a 51-acre parcel in South Weymouth that’s been the subject of a jurisdictional dispute with local officials.

The top bidder is offering $4.15 million for the former Coast Guard housing property, according to the online auction being overseen by the U.S. General Services Administration.

The GSA announced the bidding period will close on Tuesday if no additional bids are received.

The property formerly included 165 units of housing, which were demolished from 2003 to 2015, and still contains three garages, a maintenance office and workshop, parking and a 6,000-foot roadway. The Coast Guard has owned the property since 1998, the year after the former naval air station was decommissioned.

The U.S. General Services Administration scheduled the online auction in March over the objections of the Southfield Redevelopment Agency (SRA), which oversees the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station. The agency maintains that it has exclusive authority to approve land transfers at the former air base. A GSA spokesman said this spring the government rejected an offer from the SRA to buy the property before offering it to the general public.

Bidding started at $500,000. An invitation to bid issued by the GSA said the zoning and permitted uses are determined by the SRA.

The future of the 1,450-acre base redevelopment will be determined by a new master development team appointed by the SRA in August 2021.

Brookfield Properties, Boston-based New England Development and Pinehills Managing Partner Tony Green are preparing to negotiate a new development and disposition agreement for 339 acres where the bulk of residential and commercial development has been planned in the past two decades.
