Waltham-based software company Autodesk has leased 70,000 square feet in Boston’s Innovation and Design Building for its new East Coast headquarters.

Autodesk will join a burgeoning tech scene in the 1.4. million-square-foot facility in the Boston Marine Industrial Park, with a projected October move-in date. Atlanta-based developer Jamestown is spending $100 million on renovations to the former Army warehouse to attract additional tenants. The center recently opened The Makers Guild at IDB, a 35,000-square-foot shared makerspace for craftsmen.

Autodesk, a publisher of CAD and 3D design software, will house 150 employees in its development teams for its Revit and BIM 360 products in the IDB. The facility also will include a Building Innovation Learning and Design (BUILD) space for prototyping and product testing.

Autodesk opened its 65,000-square-foot offices at 1560 Trapelo Road in Waltham in 2009.

“We want to increase Autodesk’s visibility and connection to the Boston technology culture and engagement with the innovation ecosystem.  Another goal is to have the community gain a better appreciation for the impact that Autodesk customers and technology have in this world,” Autodesk Vice President Jim Lynch said in a statement.

The IDB has attracted several high-profile new tenants since Jamestown bought the ground lease for the city-owned property in 2013, including the MassChallenge tech incubator and Elkus Manfredi Architects. Jamestown last year added food trucks and private shuttle buses and recently received city approval to add a full-service restaurant and several quick-service food vendors on the ground floor.
