Avison Young has appointed a former Cushman & Wakefield executive to head its New England operations.

The Toronto-based brokerage said Wednesday that Thomas Collins will manage the day-to-day operations of its Boston and Hartford offices as managing director. The office was previously led by Michael Smith, who is no longer listed on the company’s website.

Most recently, Collins was CEO of consulting firm Collins Strategies. Collins will work out of Avison Young’s Boston office.

Collins is a former managing director for Cushman & Wakefield’s New England region and later became managing director for Atlantic Retail Properties.

Avison Young entered the Greater Boston market in 2010 with its acquisition of Essex River Ventures Inc., and opened its Hartford office in September 2015.
