A bank robber put Somerville’s Davis Square neighborhood into lockdown Wednesday morning after allegedly firing shots at Somerville police officers.

The Massachusetts State Police tweeted at 10:15 a.m. that numerous officers were responding to the area on the report of an active shooter. The MBTA temporarily closed the Davis Square Red Line station in response to the incident.

A suspect, who was in custody but had not yet been named as of 11:30 a.m., shot at Somerville police responding to the robbery, the State Police said. The person was later released.

Police said they are investigating whether or not a second suspect is involved in the robbery.

Police have not yet named the bank targeted, but Eastern Bank, Santander Bank, Bank of America, Rockland Trust and Middlesex Federal Savings Bank have branches in the square.
