Bluebird Bio Inc. has signed a 10-year lease for 253,000 square feet at Alexandria Real Estate Equities’ 60 Binney St. in Cambridge’s Kendall Square.

The gene therapy company will relocate its headquarters from 150 Second St. in Cambridge in late 2016. It also has operations in Seattle and Paris.

Bluebird agreed to pay a base rent of $72.50 per square foot beginning Oct. 1, 2016, subject to scheduled annual increases, according to an SEC filing. Alexandria will contribute $42.4 million toward construction and tenant improvements.

“Bluebird Bio is a pioneer in gene therapy and curative treatments,” Tom Andrews, executive vice president and regional market director of Greater Boston at Alexandria Real Estate Equities, said in a statement. “60 Binney Street’s location in the heart of the Kendall Square community will provide an inspirational and dynamic workplace for Bluebird Bio’s employees.”

The Alexandria Center at Kendall Square contains 2.3 million rentable square feet of state-of-the-art office/laboratory space, amenities and adjacent green space.
