The popular outdoor pavilion that has hosted some of Boston’s biggest concerts has a new name, courtesy of its new owner.

Rockland Trust and Live Nation announced this morning that the amphitheater and its 5,000 seats will now be called the Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion.

The venue, which is located in Boston’s Seaport neighborhood and hosts about 40 events each year, welcomes 180,000 live music fans annually and is a landmark for the region’s arts and culture scene. Notable acts to perform in recent years include Sting, Diana Ross, Van Morrison and Don Henley.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of Boston’s Seaport community and support this wonderful performing arts venue that has entertained so many families, residents, and visitors over the years,” Christopher Oddleifson, CEO of Rockland Trust, said in a statement. “We look forward to being an active and engaged neighbor and building relationships in one of Boston’s most exciting neighborhoods.”

The Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion adds to Rockland’s existing Boston presence including the newest Rockland Trust retail location at 93 Franklin St. and the 101 Arch St. lending and investment office at Downtown Crossing.

The naming rights come as a result of Rockland Trust’s $727 million acquisition of Blue Hills Bank, which previously had the naming rights to the amphitheater.

Once all regulatory approvals for the deal are received, Rockland Trust will also add a branch at 87 Seaport Boulevard in the Seaport District, nearby the Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion.

Rockland Trust has naming rights to the amphitheater through at least the end of 2020.
