Boston Consulting Group has chosen Tishman Speyer’s new office building at Pier 4 in the Seaport District as its consolidated home to 700 Boston-area employees.

The company leased 202,000 square feet spanning the upper seven floors in the new 370,000-square-foot building at 200 Pier 4 Boulevard, with plans to relocate from two downtown Boston offices in June 2018.

BCG said the new office building, with its rooftop garden, fitness center and adjacent waterfront park, will aid its recruiting efforts. Elkus Manfredi Architects of Boston designed the 13-story structure. BCG will design the interior space from scratch to maximize opportunities for “virtual and physical collaboration,” said Kathryn Bell, a BCG partner, in a statement.

BCG occupies 146,000 square feet of space at 53 State St., known as Exchange Place, and One Beacon. It was not clear if the additional space at Pier 4 would translate into more local hiring; a BCG spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment.

The company is the second major tenant to leave UBS Realty Investors’ 53 State St. in favor of the Seaport. Law firm Goodwin Procter LLP is opening a new Boston office this week at Fallon Co.’s 516,000-square-foot 100 Northern Ave., where it leased 380,000 square feet. The Boston Globe in June leased two floors at 53 State St. with plans to move editorial and business operations from Morrissey Boulevard in January 2017.

Boston Consulting said it will use the new offices as a recruiting tool, similar to its plans in New York to relocate this fall from midtown Manhattan to a new tower in the Hudson Yards development on the West Side.

Tishman Speyer broke ground this spring on the office building and a 100-unit luxury condo tower at the site formerly occupied by Anthony’s Pier 4 restaurant and parking lots. The development also will include a 1-acre public park on the edge of Boston Harbor. The $500 million development is a partnership between New York-based Tishman Speyer and two Chinese insurance companies.

BCG has 12,000 employees at 85 offices in 48 countries, including 146,000 square feet at 53 State St. and One Beacon.

Transwestern RBJ’s Michael Joyce and John Barry represented BCG in the transaction. Tishman Speyer’s Sam Schaefer and Brooks Brown represented ownership.
