By one measure, the Greater Boston housing market was the sixth-most competitive in the country in April.

Redfin’s monthly report on bidding wars reported that 79.7 percent of all offers written by Redfin buyer’s agents in the area faced at least one other offer.

That put Boston just behind Phoenix, Arizona (80.5 percent of offers) and just ahead of Charlotte, North Carolina (79.1 percent of offers). The three most competitive markets in Redfin’s April report were Salt Lake City, Utah (83.5 percent), San Diego, California (83.3 percent) and Spokane, Washington (83.3 percent).

Month-over-month, the Greater Boston market grew only slightly more competitive. Redfin reported 74.8 percent of offers written by its agents encountered a competing offer in March.

The news comes as real estate market-watchers wait for signs of more inventory hitting the market. While the Massachusetts Association of Realtors has not yet released its April market data, March saw a month-over-month jump in the number of new single-family listings and a five-day decrease single-family listings’ average number of final days on market to 35, although the total months of supply statewide stayed static at 0.6.

March also saw the average share of a single-family home’s original list price climb over 100 percent, from 99.8 percent to 101.9 percent, indicating an increasing number of bidding wars.
