A 250,000-square-foot, nine-story ambulatory care center at Boston Medical Center, which will replace the existing outdated facility, is nearing completion.

Officials from William A. Berry & and Son Inc. and Boston Medical Center were on hand recently to top off construction of the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Ambulatory Care Center.

The $160-million project also includes a 22,000-square-foot addition to the existing Menino Pavilion. The addition will house a surgical short-stay suite, MRI facility, an expanded emergency department, shell space and general storage areas.

Completing the frame is a major milestone in construction of the new building, which is scheduled to be completed in early 2011, according to a statement.

"The new Ambulatory Care Center will be a vital part of BMC’s patient care in the future," said Peter Campot, CEO and president of William A. Berry & Son, Inc. "We are honored to be the construction manager for such a pivotal project for the hospital."
