A developer with plans to renovate and add square footage to the Forecaster building in Boston’s West End has altered its plans to kickstart the stalled project.
Pizzuti Development has proposed increasing the number of for-sale loft condos and reducing the amount of commercial space at the property to get the ball rolling on its mothballed proposal to redevelop the 73,000-square-foot building at 121-127 Portland St.
The newly proposed plans will provide "a unit mix that is more responsive to the current economic environment," according to a notice of project change filed with the Boston Redevelopment Authority. If approved by city officials, construction could begin in early 2012.
The new plans would increase the number of residential units to 62 from 54, and bump the site’s parking capacity to 44 spaces from 42. The new proposal also eliminates one commercial space along Friend Street to make room for additional parking.
Pizzuti purchased the Portland Street property in 2004. The original project was approved in 2008, but was shelved due to the recession and credit crisis that started the same year.
