The Boston Redevelopment Authority has approved two medical expansion and redevelopment plans.

At last night’s meeting, Brigham and Women’s Hospital received approval for the Massachusetts Mental Health Center redevelopment project. The project will bring the center back to its original site and redevelop three parcels in Boston’s Longwood Medical and Mission Hill neighborhoods.

The project will also include two new clinical and administrative buildings for Brigham & Women’s Hospital and a residential building to be administered by the Roxbury Tenants of Harvard. The building will have 136 units – 66 units reserved for affordable rentals, and 70 condominiums.

The project is expected to bring 500 new permanent jobs to the area and create an additional 600 construction jobs over the next few years. Community support for the project is widespread and neighborhood residents and leaders attended Tuesday’s BRA meeting in force, crowding the city hall boardroom and prolonging discussion for almost an hour.

The BRA also approved an expansion for Children’s Hospital, which will add between 30 and 50 new inpatient beds and expanded clinical facilities in a 10-story building adjacent to its current main building.

In other business, the board also approved a new residential development in Allston. The project, a condominium complex that will produce 20 units, two of which will be designated as affordable housing, and will be located at 17-23 Greylock Road in Allston.
