164 Brattle St., CambridgeThe Cambridge Historical Commission recently presented architect Prellwitz Chilinski Assoc. with a Preservation Award for the renovation of a private residence at 164 Brattle St.

The award recognizes projects that conserve and protect the city’s architecture, historic resources and invest in the improvement of our quality of life, according to the historical society.

The project included a full gut restoration of an existing residence built in 1868, replacement of an addition built in 1892 that detracted from the original structure, and the replacement of a two-car garage built in 1919. The new addition and garage are designed to seamlessly integrate with the existing, 1860s-era house.

"For a Cambridge-based firm like ours, this award is special," said Wendy Prellwitz, co-founder of PCA and principal-in-charge on the project. "We value the city’s history and believe in the power of design to make a positive contribution to the community."
