Downtown Crossing becomes home to the region’s newest start-up hub next month as the Cambridge Innovation Center opens its first Boston location at 50 Milk St.

The Cambridge Innovation Center has leased 70,000 square feet of co-working, office and meeting space. Called CIC Boston, the facility will be run by Stas Gayshan, founder and CEO of Fort Point-based coworking provider Space with a Soul. Gayshan is joining CIC as managing director of CIC Boston. Existing Space with a Soul clients will have the option of moving to the CIC Boston location.

CIC Boston will open in phases as various floors are completed and furnished. The first space is anticipated to open in late April with additional floors opening through the summer. In addition, Impact Hub Boston, a local affiliate of CIC, also will move to 50 Milk St.

"CIC’s mission is to help solve the world’s problems by strengthening local innovation systems. We build impactful workspaces that enhance an entrepreneur’s likelihood of success," CIC Founder and CEO Tim Rowe said in a statement.

The original CIC houses over 600 startups in 207,000 square feet of space in Cambridge’s Kendall Square.

Cushman & Wakefield represented CIC in the Milk Street transaction while the building’s owner, Ponte Gadea, was represented by Transwestern RBJ.
