Braintree-based Campanelli Construction has started renovation of the new 63,000 square foot High Point Hospital in Middleborough.

The vacant former Cranberry Specialty Hospital will be converted into a 72-bed psychiatric hospital.

Currently, High Point operates inpatient and outpatient programs in Plymouth, Brockton, New Bedford and Taunton. The new location will allow High Point to expand from 16 beds in Plymouth to 72 beds. Jobs will be created for a staff of 200, consisting of physicians, nurses, clinicians, maintenance staff, mental health workers, housekeepers, dietary and administrative staff.

“Our plan is to renovate a property that has been neglected, vandalized and currently provides no economic value to the Middleborough community. We will add jobs, offer life-changing treatments, and become an active member of the community by providing mental health and substance abuse prevention, education, and treatment services,” said High Point President and CEO Daniel Mumbauer in a statement.

Campanelli Construction recently launched a new website as its business in this niche construction field expands. The company recently completed the 180,000-square-foot South Shore Medical Center in Norwell and has completed over 500,000 square feet of new medical facilities in the past decade.
