Cape And Islands Hotel Rates Rise

Cape and Islands hotels got a good jump on the summer tourism season with increases in room and occupancy rates during May, according to an industry report.

Average daily room rates were $197.11 in May, a 1.7 percent increase from May 2013, according to PKF Consulting USA. The occupancy rate was 51.3 percent, up from 48.5 percent in May 2013.

Revenues per available room averaged $101.05, up from $94.06 in May 2013.

PKF surveyed 17 hotel operators with a total of 1,700 rooms on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.

The report comes after a survey of Boston-area hotels also showed improving financial performance, with convention business and graduation season contributing to the strongest May performance in nine years.
