Bank of America is closing three of its branches in Greater Boston while Citizens Bank continues to replace branches in grocery stores with video teller-enabled interactive teller machines.

The November data from the Office of the Comptroller of Currency showed that BofA closed down its branches on 108 Main St., Medway and another inside South Shore Plaza in Braintree, as well as moving to close its 172 Park St. branch in North Reading.

Citizens is shutting down its branches inside Stop & Shop stores in 760 Fellsway Plaza in Medford and 1277 Liberty St. in Springfield and plans to replace them with interactive teller machines (ITMs), what it calls “Citizens Express Sites,” in February.

“We’ve been on a journey at Citizens to evolve how our customers bank with us, and we continually review customer patterns to evolve and adjust branch strategy across our network,” Eleni Garbis, communications director at Citizens, said in an email.

“At the end of the day, our customers want to have options in how they bank, and we aim to deliver best-in-class convenience delivered across a variety of different channels,” she added, noting that the bank has over 195 branches in Massachusetts to date.

Santander also shuttered its Boston-Symphony branch at 279 Mass. Ave. as part of its reorganization and strategic moves toward online-focused products and services.

JPMorgan Chase applied to open another branch – on the intersection of Cushing Highway and Beechwood Street in Cohasset – as part of its expansion plan in Massachusetts.

Chase and TD Bank also received approvals from the OCC for planned branch openings: a Nubian Square branch in Boston for TD Bank, and locations at Cobb Corner in Canton and at the intersection of VFW Highway and Bridge Street in Lowell for Chase.
