Caritas Communities

Braintree-based affordable housing and homelessness services provider Caritas Communities has launched an endowed fund named after one of its incorporators, Paul McGrath. The nonprofit said it has raised $750,000 of its $1 million target, and all donations are being matched by the John and Mary Corcoran Family Foundation, up to $500,000. The fund will support rental assistance to residents facing a temporary financial setback due to loss of income or unexpected expenses.

Freedom Credit Union

Freedom Credit Union, based in Springfield, raised $2,710 for the Food Bankof Western Massachusetts by collecting cash donations from customers at its branches.

HarborOne Bank

Over 60 staff from Brockton-based HarborOne Bank helped fill 1,000 backpacks with new school supplies for local children on Aug. 19. The backpacks will be distributed via School on Wheels, Interfaith Social Services, Old Colony YMCA, Family and Community Resources, Greater Plymouth County United Way, Adoption Rhode Island and The Warwick Boys & Girls Club.

Naveo Credit Union

Somerville-based Naveo Credit Union has awarded $1,500 scholarships to three area students anonymously selected based on financial need, scholastic merit and community and school involvement.

Webster Five 

Webster Five donated $4,000 to the Quinsigamond Community College Foundation. This donation will assist the foundation and its QCC Student Emergency Aid Fund, which was created to provide timely financial aid to at-risk students.

Winchester Savings Bank

Winchester Savings Bank announced a $15,000 donation to the town’s En Ka Society to celebrate 150 years in business. The society is a volunteer group of over 200 Winchester women that supports local nonprofits like Meals on Wheels, by providing labor for free. The group also holds the town’s biggest community event, the En Ka Fair, held every May.
