Brookline Bank

Brookline Bank announced the results of a recent school backpack distribution effort it launched in collaboration with the South Middlesex Opportunity Council. The bank and the nonprofit distributed 100 backpacks filled with school supplies, supplied by the bank’s marketing and fulfillment vendor Winbrook Inc., to families from Haiti and Venezuela who are part of this summer and fall’s unprecedented surge of refugees and immigrants arriving in Massachusetts.

Clinton Savings Bank

Clinton Savings Bank gave $10,000 to the Shrewsbury Police Department to buy a portable digital message board for the town, to help announce road work, bad weather, town events and safety issues.

Freedom Credit Union

Springfield’s Freedom Credit Union raised $2,700 through its annual summer food drive for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. In addition to cash donations, Freedom also said it collected an unspecified amount of non-perishable food items.

KeyBank

Ohio-based KeyBank gave $39,000 to Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity through the bank’s foundation. The money will go towards building environmentally-friendly homes.

Monson Savings Bank

Monson Savings Bank gave $1,750 to the Friends of Wilbraham Recreation, chosen by community members who voted in the bank’s annual Community Giving Initiative.

The bank also gave $1,000 to Wilbraham based nonprofit Rick’s Place, which provides free grief support services and resources, as part of the same initative.

Newburyport Bank

Through its foundation, Newburyport Bank gave $10,000 to the Cooperative Alliance for Seacoast Transportation. The grant will help cover the design and permitting of a new operations and maintenance facility and an indoor bus garage for the public transportation provider serving New Hampshire’s Seacoast region.

Rockland Trust Co.

Hanover-based Rockland Trust Co. announced a $75,000 grant to More Than Words, a Waltham nonprofit that empowers young adults ages 16-24 who are court-involved, in the foster care system, out-of-school or experiencing homelessness to take charge of their lives. The grant will provide operational support for the organization’s youth development and job training program which serves over 300 individuals annually in the Greater Boston area.
