Dedham’s NewBridge on the Charles, a continuing care retirement community sponsored by Hebrew SeniorLife, is celebrating its one-year anniversary today with a dedication ceremony.

The 4 p.m. ceremony will feature several speakers including Gov. Deval Patrick, Harvard Medical School Dean Jeff Flier, NewBridge on the Charles benefactors Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson and Hebrew SeniorLife CEO Len Fishman.

In June 2009, NewBridge on the Charles opened its doors to the first residents of its 256 independent living residences. The Jack Satter Assisted Living Residences and the Gilda and Alfred A. Slifka Memory Support Assisted Living Residences, with a combined 91 units, opened in July 2009.

In December, the community’s continuum of care was complete with the opening of the 266-bed Hebrew Rehabilitation Center (HRC) at NewBridge on the Charles, located in the Gloria Adelson Field Health Center.

"The ability to live and age with respect and independently in our own communities is at the heart of our Community First agenda and we remain focused on working with partners like Hebrew SeniorLife to make it a reality for as many individuals and families as possible."

"The opening of NewBridge on the Charles one year ago this month marked the culmination of a seven-year development effort by Hebrew SeniorLife’s board, donors, staff and volunteers," said Fishman. "It’s incredible to reflect on the past year of NewBridge ‘firsts’ to see the vision realized and the lasting, extraordinary benefits the campus has provided, and will continue to provide, to our residents, staff and the greater Dedham community for years to come."
