A vacant restaurant building will be demolished to make way for a residential development next to the MBTA commuter rail’s Brockton station.
South Shore Property Management plans to build 64 market-rate units above two levels of covered parking totaling 80 spaces in a 6-story building.
Designed by BKA Architects of Brockton, the 90,000-square-foot building will include four studios, 44 one-bedroom and 16 two-bedroom apartments.
South Shore Property Management owner Geoffrey Anatole previously developed the 24-unit Standard Modern Residences, Brockton’s first ground-up market-rate housing project in decades, and the 44-unit XLVII West Elm.
Pending local approvals and certification from the state’s housing development incentive program, the project will break grounn spring 2022, South Shore Property Management said.
“The development of Brockton’s downtown is vitally important to the ultimate success of our city and our goal is to have a thriving downtown that is safe for residents and has the necessary commercial and social amenities that residents expect in a modern city,” Brockton Ward 5 City Councilor Jeffrey A. Thompson said in a statement.
