Dorchester’s Codman Square will soon host the Boston neighborhood’s first three-story modular, energy-efficient residence at 81 Brent St.
Construction on the project began in January, and the residence is expected to be the first LEED-H Platinum certified home in Dorchester, according to a statement. Westchester Modular Homes of Greater Boston is supervising the project.
The 3,360-square-foot house is designed to have solar hot water PV panels and a rainwater harvesting system.
"This home will be a showcase and example to others," said Cynthia Loesch, president of the Codman Square Neighborhood Council and co-owner of the new home. "Modular makes sense for sustainability purposes as well as a number of other reasons."
Loesch and Ivan Liriano – also a co-owner – will rent two of the home’s three floors, according to a statement. The couple plans to make an educational showcase out of the home, showing off the energy-saving components.
The house is expected to be completed by April and an open house is planned for later this year.
