The customer service department of Beverly-based personal and commercial insurer Electric Insurance Co. has won a Stevie Award from the American Business Awards.

The company said it was recognized for the “world-class claims service and support it provides to its auto and homeowners insurance policyholders.”  Finalists in this category included Wachovia, CIGNA Corp., ARAG and Family Heritage Life Insurance Co.

Maureen Hegarty, vice president of claims at Electric Insurance, accepted the award on behalf of the company at the American Business Awards ceremony held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Stevie Awards were presented in over 40 categories including Best Overall Company of the Year, Executive of the Year and Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Year. 

"We are pleased that our Personal Lines Claims department has been recognized as the Customer Service Department of the Year," said Marc Meiches, president and CEO of the company. "Our business is all about being there for the customer when they need us. The Stevie Award is phenomenal third-party validation that we are delivering outstanding customer service at the most important time, the time when our customer experiences a loss."
