one broadway.JPGFacebook confirmed Thursday that it has moved into new digs in Cambridge’s Kendall Square.

The company, which was started by Mark Zuckerberg in a Harvard dorm room, has had employees in the Boston area, but they’ve been working from shared space at Workbar, according to The Boston Globe.

According to Facebook spokesperson Alex Hollander, the company has leased space at One Broadway, the home of the Cambridge Innovation Center, and is operating out of those offices starting this week. According to the Globe, the company leased 3,000 square feet of space on the eighth floor of the building and will have a total of about 15 employees. Although, Hollander said the company doesn’t typically comment on how many employees would work in the office or plans for growth.

"Facebook Boston will be our fifth official engineering team, along with Menlo Park, Seattle, New York and London," Ryan Mack, the site lead for Facebook Boston, said in a statement posted on Facebook. "Our engineering culture is incredibly important to us, so we are very deliberate when it comes to expanding that culture to new locations. But in many ways, Boston was an easy choice. The tech community here is world-class, from the incredible academic institutions to the vibrant startup ecosystem to the bevy of global companies who have teams here. We are thrilled to have found a new home here and hope we can help the community continue to thrive."
