A veteran of three of the largest banks on Wall Street will start next week as the commissioner of the Department of Revenue, the Baker administration announced Tuesday.

Geoffrey Snyder, whose most recent job was as managing partner of Global Recruiters Fort Mill in South Carolina, will take over Monday as head of DOR. Snyder worked at DOR from October 2016 until April 2019 as the deputy commissioner of administrative affairs and acting chief financial officer.

“Geoffrey’s steadfast leadership in the public and private sectors, broad depth of management expertise and vast knowledge of the finance industry will serve the Department of Revenue extremely well, and ensure the agency can continue delivering excellent service to its constituents,” Secretary of Administration and Finance Michael Heffernan said. “We look forward to welcoming Geoffrey back to the team and continuing our work to provide efficient and fair administration of tax policies in a fiscally responsible way and meaningful support for our customers across the Commonwealth.”

Since Christopher Harding stepped down as DOR commissioner in December to take a consulting job, the agency has been led by General Counsel Kevin Brown.

From 2007 to 2014, Snyder worked as director of equity sales and trading at Wells Fargo, where he led the company’s research sales and sales trading operations in the United States and in London. He also previously worked as global head of institutional sales at Bank of America Securities and as deputy head of U.S. equity sales at Citigroup Global Markets, according to the administration.

Snyder hold two degrees from Cornell University.
