Boston-based Eastern Bank has awarded Evelyn Friedman, executive director of the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council (GLCAC), with its 2013 Community Advocacy Award.

This award recognizes individuals who address vital needs in their community. Friedman received the award for her efforts in workforce development training and early childhood education.

GLCAC is a non-profit social services agency that supports low-income families in Greater Lawrence. Under Friedman’s leadership, the agency is actively looking to expand its services into affordable housing and workforce development.

"The Merrimack Valley has many worthy candidates for this honor, but Evelyn stood out for her passion and commitment to providing early childhood education and services for the people of Greater Lawrence," Bob Rivers, president and COO of Eastern Bank, said in a statement.
