Google CEO Sundar Pichai says his company will add 10,000 new staffers this year and invest $7 billion in new offices and data centers, including its under-construction regional headquarters in Cambridge’s Kendall Square.

“Coming together in person to collaborate and build community is core to Google’s culture, and it will be an important part of our future. So we continue to make significant investments in our offices around the country,” Pichai wrote in a blog post Thursday.

The announcement comes as the commercial real estate industry attempts to divine what the future of office space looks like, and how much space tenants will actually demand amid a record amount of sublease space on the market in Greater Boston and class B office rents beginning to dip.

A Google spokesperson was not immediately available for comment, but the company had committed to 850,000 square feet of office space in Cambridge’s Kendall Square in 2019. Nearly half that space will come in the under-construction 325 Main St. building, also known as Kendall Center, being developed by Boston Properties. Delivery is estimated for the second quarter of 2022, with interior fit-out work beginning or underway.
