Waltham-based green builder Blu Homes Inc. has opened an 80,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in East Longmeadow, relocating its factory from Littleton.

"It’s great to see innovative young technology companies like Blu establishing a base here in Western Mass.," said Congressman Richard E. Neal. "Blu is focused on building green homes that reduce a homeowners’ carbon footprint, which is terribly important."

Blu’s computer modeling, folding technology and use of a hybrid steel and wood frame allows it to manufacture buildings that are larger and more durable than any other factory-built homes and commercial spaces, according to a statement.

Blu buildings can be shipped anywhere in the country from its Massachusetts facility and can be installed and finished within days, the company said. The homes range from $70,000 to $275,000, according to a statement.

"This is great for East Longmeadow and the Springfield area. Blu is bringing green jobs that are good for the economy and the environment," said Selectman and Chairman of the East Longmeadow Green Committee Jim Driscoll.

Blu employs 45 people, up from five employees one year ago, with 15 of them in the East Longmeadow facility, according to a statement.
