What: 1001 Boylston
Where: Boston
Owner: Samuels & Assoc. / MassDOT
Built: 2020-2023

Dutch boutique hotel chain citizenM and online vehicle marketplace CarGurus will anchor the parcel 12 air rights project in Back Bay.

CarGurus leased 275,000 square feet on the upper floors of a 20-story office building known as 1001 Boylston. The company will consolidate its workspaces from three East Cambridge locations upon completion of the Back Bay tower in 2023.

CitizenM arrived in Boston in August with the opening of its 272-room hotel at The Hub on Causeway. It will operate the 13-story, 144,000-square-foot hotel building at the end of Newbury Street.

The project will include a new public plaza on the west side of Massachusetts Avenue and a terrace overlooking the Turnpike. Samuels & Assoc. also will build a new headhouse for the MBTA’s Hynes Convention Center station on the west side of Massachusetts Avenue and renovate a long-dormant pedestrian tunnel connecting to the existing station entrance on Newbury Street.

They Said It:

citizenM delivers a distinctive experience for today’s tourists and business travelers; this global brand is known for its unique style, top-line amenities, and innovative technology. We’re confident that the citizenM will provide a great new option for travelers eager to experience the culture, shopping, and restaurants of the Back Bay.
