What: 1550 Main St.
Where: Springfield
Owner: Mittas Holdings and DGP Properties

A pair of developers acquired a former federal courthouse-turned-office building in downtown Springfield from MassDevelopment for $6 million.

MassDevelopment purchased the 130,000-square-foot building from the federal government in 2009. Exterior and interior renovations designed by architects Arrowstreet included the addition of ground-floor retail and redesign of the central plaza.

Under MassDevelopment ownership, occupancy increased from 70 to 98 percent. Current tenants include the Springfield School Department, Bay State Health, Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and regional offices for U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey. The new owners assumed all existing leases.

They Said It:

“Working with tenants, partners, and the city of Springfield over the years allowed us to cultivate this property to its best and highest use. This type of focused teamwork is how long-lasting redevelopment takes root. It is what makes converting an old federal courthouse into a stunning multi-tenant office building possible.”
