A renovation project designed by Margulies Perruzzi transformed over 64,000 square feet across two floors at 20 Overland St. in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood into BSL-2 lab and open-plan office space. 

Strand Therapeutics, founded in 2017 by researchers from the MIT Synthetic Biology Center, leased 64,231 square feet at the property in spring 2022. 

A helix sculpture which represents Strand Therapeutics’ synthetic biology research stands at the center of a connecting staircase between the company’s two floors. 

Totaling 202,167 square feet, the former World War II-era vehicle manufacturing plant is being updated with new building systems to provide lab space for life science tenants.
