BioMed Realty has received special permit approval from the Cambridge Planning Board for 585 Kendall, a 500,000-square-foot office-lab building including community and performing arts space. 

Designed by CBT Architects, the 16-story tower will include a 10,000-square-foot ground floor flex space and 300-seat theater. The designs incorporate sweeping curves and a three-tier massing scheme that provides opportunities for outdoor space on upper floors. 

Cambridge-based nonprofit 585 Arts, an affiliate of Global Arts Live, will manage 30,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor public space including the theater, rehearsal space, multipurpose rooms, an indoor garden and outdoor performance areas throughout the 10-acre Canal District.
